Burscough

A workman-like performance without too much to excite me for the rest of the season. Just like last time round we created chances without converting a high enough percentage of them. We played with a strong wind in the first half, up a bit of a slope. We were generally in charge, but as is inevitable, Burscough had chances. We finally scored on the stroke of half time, when Joe Whittington just got enough on his shot when returning a poorly-struck clearance from their keeper (which was made from wide on the right-side of their defence) first-time from around 30 yards, to just beat the scrambling custodian at his left-hand post. We seemed to lose the plot at the start of the second half & kept trying to play through the middle, instead of putting the ball out to the wings, where we had much more success, stretching them & making space in the middle, & so ended up losing the ball far too frequently. We conceded after the ball was allowed to be kept in our penalty box after a corner without us ever getting anywhere near it, Mike Donlon was left with no chance as it was pretty well finished. Matty Poole replaced Billy Akrigg, but took Ryan Winder's spot on the field up top with Aaron Taylor, & was brought down by the keeper, Ryan Winder (Wine-der according to the PA) converted the spot kick. We made harder work than was really necessary of holding on for the win at the end, but three points are three points. Hopefully we will be able to convert lots of possession into more goals as the season progresses
MOTM Garry Hunter.......good début from Joe Whittington, solid from Jacob Davies
Good support as usual

"Wyan" according to the teamsheet. We had "Simon Weazing" on the bench as well who must need to give up the ciggies.

We looked like a team that hadn't played many pre-season games to be honest. Took a while to get going in the first half, but were deservedly ahead at half time. Had a lot of chances in the game and fluffed most of them. Just about solid enough to the back to get the win though.
Away from home on a narrow and difficult pitch, that's pretty good going. Happy days! Bring on the Brig

Cory Bent ? Yay or Nay ? Given as signed on the Evo site. Any News ? Was at Clitheroe on loan last season if I remember. Could be wrong.

Looks like we're back to new players just turning up on the team sheet without any announcements: Jamie Street. Cory Bent. Luke Parkinson. Jacob Gregory. All signed in the past week apparently as they were on the bench on Saturday.

Yep, that looks like the case. Thought we once held a meeting that there would be better communication between the board and fans concerning new signings and the like !!

I thought Joe Whittington had an excellent game and he worked really hard tracking back. He would be my man of the match. Apart from that agree with what Alasher says. Nothing ever changes we are always the last to know regarding players leaving or signing. We will need to play a lot better against Bamber Bridge to get anything out of the game.

Chaps,
Your comments about player signings are a tad unfair. 2 of the 4 above were trailed in last Friday's Supporters Club Bulletin, though I didn't, at the time, have a name for the "second loanee" from AFC Fylde (Jacob Gregory). As for the others, there was a great deal of frenetic activity by the management team and the Club Sec at the end of the week to get registrations lodged, FA clearance and the likes, some of which only materialised late on Friday. Until those processes are complete, there is nothing to tell.
Please be assured that there is a very real and sincere effort being made by the Club to communicate properly, and in a timely manner, with supporters. Some credit where due, would, I'm sure, be appreciated.

What due credit is there to be levelled?
Maybe I've missed something but as far as I can see, 5 days later there's no news of any recent signings on the club website? As someone else mentioned it's on the evostick site but not on ours. We had an update during the summer when there was virtually nothing to report (which I nevertheless appreciated) but nothing official when there seemingly is news.....surely we don't have to wait for the supporters club weekly bulletin for these kind of developments?
Apologies if this has indeed appeared on the website under my radar!

More new signings? Clarke? Who, where and why?
Still no word on the rest of them, although it's too late to "announce" them now.
