The lad is 100% committed & that quite simply is all that you can ask of anyone in any job. If I, Janb or anyone else were better at playing football than Simon Wills, we would be in the team instead of him. Darren Peacock hasnt rung me & asked me to play on Wednesday, & I bet the same applies to all our regular message contributors. Criticism is destructive, whats the point?
On the other hand, Mr. Peacock has rung me to ask me to do the Long Marsh Lane turnstile on Wednesday.

For the record I think Wills is a very underrated player. Fills in many roles very capably and whilst his passing may not spectacular, I don't think his touch is as bad as many make it out to be. He has a decent strike on him as well.

Invaluable squad player.

AJ wrote:Exactly. His place on that gate is in question. I saw the way you walked your money across to the office the other night Steve. No urgency. Wink
Thats why you'll never make a gateman at this level son! The only urgency required regarding money at this level is getting it out of the punter's sweaty mitts. Once you have the money what is required is to keep control of it look after it, never give it away, & make damn sure that the final pass is accurate. Its no good enticing folk in with  a mixture of good natured banter & general chit-chat if you are then going to give it away as you pass the bar or Dolly's Diner is there? Its a talent son, something we gatemen take a great pride in & work hard at. Its not just natural ability, it takes dedication & hard work  Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Probably not but don't beat yourself up about it Smile

To deride him so easily and flippantly for not be such a well rounded footballer is a little bit over the top to me.
I happen to have the philosophy that the constructive side of the game is the important part. Basically I just said he can't pass it well enough to be in my first XI. Its like saying Rob Henry doesn't score.

Yet none of us are players or managers, y'know. Our opinions really don't count for much, though we certainly deserve them. Supporters. The clue is in the name, if a player gives nothing then he probably doesn't deserve support, if he gives vital elements to a game then give him it. Waffle over. Smile
I always support Simon Wills and Lancaster. You will never hear a negative word coming from the terraces from me, unlike some. I hope we win every game for the rest of the season with Simon taking a starring role. I've been at 95% of home games for the past 5-6 years including friendlies and Lancashire Cup games. Believe me I support.

This is a discussion forum, we can discuss the team, worts and all. I appreciate in your position you don't have the same freedom. Someone asked a best XI, I gave one, there was shock that you could ignore the claims of Wills, I said he doesn't play well enough with the ball for me. Not a controversial statement to me.

AJ wrote:
And for all his skill I'd suggest he gives the ball away as often as Wills. Kind of my point in a roundabout way, all those lovely touches and passing ability yet does less for the team, on occasion.
Absolutely. Mahoney has given the ball away as much as Wills. No argument from me. (Or from Mr Peacock given recent selections). As I said he could make a best XI but only on reputation and the hope/hunch that he will come good. Akrigg is the form selection.

Wasn't doubting your support Smile

You're Pep Guardiola aren't you? Wink I knew it.

I love the constructive aide of the game too, but it wouldn't be possible without the likes of Wills winning the ball with his particular attributes.

I was only ever questioning the need to heap ao much criticism on a particular player when, in reality, at this level "experts" could do that about any member of a team.
