Decision by the league was to stick an extra layer of fixtures in on the 28th because the Conference were doing it. scratch

I think we once tried it in the 70's. If so somebody on here will probably know for sure.

Think you are right about admission by programme I am sure it was early 70's when Shaun Gallagher was manager. Come on Brocker you must know which game it was.

I think the first home game on a Sunday was 1st October 1972 v Skem.

Result 1-1 (Whitbread), having beaten Goole 3-0 at home the day before

We didn't get floodlights till 1973, so Sunday games were a way of easing pressure on fixtures since we couldn't play at night. Ced Gelling brought along a sixteen year old from his school team to play on Sundays: Brendan O'Callaghan who later made his name as centre half with Stoke City in footy's top tier.

That was the first Sunday game of that season.

In 1971-2 we played no less than SIX Sunday games, three each home and away.

Just had a look through my programme collection. LCFC played Northwich Victoria on Sunday 12th December 1971. In the chairman's comments it states: "As a club, we make history this weekend by staging a league match at Giant Axe on a Sunday." Admission was indeed by programme because of the Lord's Day Observance Act at a cost of 20p. Gainsborough Trinity had been the visitors the day before.
