That's a fair old move geographically. As usual, as a non-executive Director, I know nowt about it: mind you, I suspect that the Executive Directors don't know either.

Tom Wood was pretty useful, but the greatest of them all was Barry Whitbread. What a player he was!!!!

Got to agree, Whitbread possibly the best striker I've seen at the Axe and there have been some good 'uns.

If you're old enough to remember Barry Whitbread, you're too old (and yes, I remember Barry Whitbread !!!). That was a time of Kamikaze football at Giant Axe, when you knew the side would leak goals, despite having the great Brian Newman in goal, one of a long line of outstanding goalkeepers that stretches to this day ! Big Dave Furnival, if something of an alehouse centre forward, playing alongside Barry, could get amongst the goals, too. I remember some ridiculous results - a 2-5 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic, on a New Years Day, I believe, but I can't remember what year (1971 or 1972 ?). And a spectacular 5-5 draw with Gainsboro' Trinity, which could just as easily have been 10-10 !! Anyone remember that, and when it was ? I think Whitbread got 2 that day.
