Witton Empty Witton

What a team performance tonight. Witton keeper pulled off 2 wonder saves before we scored 3 first half goals. Best 45 minutes we have produced for many years, the passing and movement were great to watch. Dropped of a little in second half but great to see killer get the hat trick. When you look at the players out injured and we still had a bench full of players who could get in most other teams then we really have to pay a massive compliment to Philip John Brown. I've been fortunate to have known phil as a player and a manager and when we had our supporters meeting with him at the start of the season he was asked how he thought we would manage in this league. I knew by his reply that he hoped we could be a top ten side he didn't want to put any pressure on the players or his staff. But knowing that phil is so maticulous in every thing he does that top ten to him would not be good enough, we can't expect to compete financially with a few teams in our league but our team spirit is second to none. Also good to see the crowds are creeping up again, only about a dozen witton fans in attendance. Things are looking up both on and off the pitch long may it continue.

My first post. This is only my 3rd season supporting but that 1st half performance was certainly the best I've seen. Great to watch, especially as I went to Watch Preston on Saturday and watched a dire 0-0 draw! Thought that Killer held the ball up well besides scoring a hat trick but good performances all over the pitch. We have a really good squad in depth - vital with the games coming thick and fast - but must wonder if we can keep some of them if they're not getting much game time.

In a way a game of two halves as City were magnificent going forward in the first half and ultra resilient under attack in the second.
Everything seemed to go our way in the first half, lots of ideas and interplay and a tremendous work rate. Witton started off looking good with their passing but the way we pressed soon produced results and put them off. The goals were great, the first just reward for the initial efforts, the second a deserved scoreline and the third was the icing (with sprinkles) on the cake.
The second half must have left Witton so frustrated given all the pressure they put City under. I lost count of the number of consecutive corners that they had and no wonder Josh could at best get a fist to the ball such was the press of bodies in his way. Energy levels slipped a little as you'd expect given everyones efforts but the will to work as a team meant that everything was still dealt with. A final goal for us after all Wittons efforts may have rubbed their noses in it but was the perfect end to a great Lancaster City performance. Same again Saturday please!

We just get better with each have at the moment. I've been following City for the best part of 35 years and in that time I've seen some great performances, 5-0 at home to Accrington Stanley in the late 90s early 2000s, I forget the exact date, and likewise some dire ones. This for me was one of the best I've seen in many years. Not just the first half when the football was at timesscintillating, but also the second half when our defending was unbelievably good. We also caused them problems in there second half on the break which led to Killers hat trick goal. Tom, who has been kicking his heels on the bench for a few weeks came in and was unplayable while Sam B had his best game since his return. Josh seems to get better with each game and when Phil has to tinker with the team due to injury and unavailability he uses his squad to the max pretty much keeping everyone happy. The team spirit looks fantastic so obviously what Phil is doing is working. There crowd was a little disappointing but that lot playing at home and champions league doesnt help. Also great programme again with an excellent piece on Dave Barnes. However I was someone shocked at the good father's quote when he felt it necessary to fill the pages with expletives regarding the Salford City management calling our lads "young hungry gobshites" lol. Anyway onwards and upwards and into the Shaw Lane game where hopefully we can earn a few quid and progress to the next round COYDB.

How do you manage to write such reports when you chat your way through the game without looking at the pitch?

It's a skill I've aquired after years of watching dross. It's often better than watching the game.
